Good Thang: Make Your Own Record Bowl!

August 18th, 2008

This is a simple and fun way to reuse vinyl records. If you just cannot part with any of your collection (I know, I know), then make a quick trip to the second-hand store and pick up some Air Supply or Peaches and Herb.

What you’ll need:
- Vinyl record(s)
- Oven-safe bowl
- Cookie sheet
materials

1. Preheat your oven to 200 degrees farenheit.

2. Place bowl bottom-up on cookie sheet, and place record on top. Bake for five minutes.

4. Pull out of the oven and shape the bowl to your liking. If it helps, place the record inside the bowl to shape. If you aren’t satisfied, put it back into the over to soften.  When you are happy with the shape, let it cool for two minutes until hard.

See how easy? Not the most original craft, it’s true, but definitely worth a go if you haven’t done it before.

Dude, I love it. I think I’m going to do a miniature version with an old ruined Sebadoh 45 that I can’t bring myself to throw away. I think it would make an appropriate ash tray.
