Jay Reatard - Singles 06-07

Artist: Jay Reatard
Album: Singles 06–07
Label: In The Red Records
There is something quite exciting about this artist—a Santogold-level buzz without the blatant commercialism (yet)—and I am so happy to be caught up in its momentous wave. And he is incredibly productive. Six 7” singles are planned for 2008 while he works on his full-length 2009 release, in addition to this incredible collection of earlier singles.

Roughness and polish work together on Reatard’s tracks. At one moment simple, this song then slips into the epic with the cascading guitar riffs and echoed vocals. Quite good.

Again the pop and punk intertwining and working well. Very listenable and very engaging.
Reatard’s work is great and definitely worth the money, so buy this collection (which also includes a DVD of live performances) and check out how to order his singles series. Also, check out his blog, his myspace page, and his site on In The Red Records.
